Description
Stunning Antique Art Nouveau Uranium Opaline Glass Portrait Vase - Circa 1900 Crafted in the iconic Forme "Cornet" this unsigned piece is by Legras & Cie (Verreries de Saint-Denis, France). It stands 9.5 inches tall and with a 3.5 inch rim and a 2.5 inch base. This vase features an elegant, transfer portrait of a Belle Epoque lady framed by heavily textured, hand-painted raised relief enamel in gold, brown and dark teal. The translucent green opaline glass body reacts vividly under a UV blacklight, fluorescing a brilliant neon green due to its uranium composition. Additionally, the hand-applied enamel details contain cadmium/selenium, which creates a highly desirable, contrasting fiery orange-red glow under the light. The vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or structural repairs. The underside features a beautifully executed, smooth ground and polished pontil mark alongside authentic factory grinding wheel line. The exterior cold-painted teal enamel bands show minor, typical rubbing and light paint flaking consistent with its 125-year age. This magnificent piece will be carefully double-boxed and fully insured for shipping.
