A Series of Discourses delivered in several meetings of the Society of Friends by Elias Hicks, Taken in short hand by M. T. C. Gould 1 ST Ed. Published in Philadelphia : By Joseph & Edward Parker No 178 Market St. Printed by I. Ashmead & Co, in 1825 The following sermons were preached by Elias Hicks, of Jericho, Long Island, (now in his 77th year, ) when returning from a visit to Baltimore, where he had been attending the Late Yearly Meeting of friends, held in that city. This book is 322 pages and most all have some foxing present. Once again this is common for the age and quality of paper used. The rounded corners of each page is the fault of the camera used and not part of the book. The book had dust cover in brown velvet that has left color stains on the inside of the front and back boards and a bit in the first and last pages. Images shown with and without the dust cover. The exterior boards and the spline are in excellent condition because of the cover. They are in leather and with a burl wood look about them. The first frontis has the name Mathias Hutchinson and initials of same above (see images) the inside is all intack and still tight and in great shape. Elias Hicks(March 19, 1748 – February 27, 1830) was a traveling Quaker minister from Long Island, New York. In his ministry he promoted unorthodox doctrines that led to controversy, which caused the second major schism within the Religious Society of Friends (the first caused by George Keith in 1691) Elias Hicks was the older cousin of the painter Edward Hicks”o
