Description
For sale here is a collection of six photo books, mostly hardcover, including rare collectibles and a signed special edition. This is a must for anyone who appreciates the art of photography! A mixture of stunning nature and scenes of the human condition, there is a total of nearly a thousand images in this collection. Ansel Adams: "Yosemite and the Range of Light" This hardcover is a special edition for Time/Life Books and signed by Ansel Adams. Originally selling for $75 in 1980, which was a lot more money back then, this is now a valued collectible. Opening with a forward written by Adams, "Yosemite and the Range of Light" features 116 of his photographs from Yosemite and the Sierra's, many immediately recognizable as among his most famous works. About 15.5" by 12.5" Ansel Adams: "Images 1923~1974" Published in 1974, this giant hardcover includes 115 incredible images that Ansel Adams took all across the country from New Jersey and Massachusetts to Alaska and Hawaii. Not only are there landscapes, but also portraits, structures, street, cityscapes, and historical sites displayed in stunning large format. This special edition came with a separate 13.75" by 10" print of "Winter Sunrise, Sierra Nevada, from Lone Pine, California 1944" that's initialed by Ansel Adams, perfect for framing. Unfortunately, there's a small pair of stains dotting the sky, which I tried to show in the attached photo where the print is next to the barn and New York skyline, but they don't really show up. The book ends with a chronology of Adams' life and even includes technical information about the cameras used for various photographs. This hefty tome sold for the princely sum of $125 when new over 50 years ago and is highly sought-after today by collectors and fans of Ansel Adams and 20th Century American photography. 17.5" by 14" Josef Scaylea: "Scaylea on Photography; How He Does It" We had our own local Ansel Adams in Josef Scaylea. Not nearly as famous, but equal in talent, he produced stunning images of nature and humanity from across Washington State. This hardcover was published locally in Seattle, but I couldn't find a date, guessing it's late '70's to early '80's. Scaylea offers detailed notes of his photography gear and technique used for each of the 60 photographs featured here. The inside of the dust jacket starts the book off with a wealth of tips for photographers, beginning what amounts to a book of art and a photography textbook in one. Scaylea was a regular photographer for The Seattle Times and The Associated Press, and his works are today featured at the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) in Seattle. Own this work of a local legend! 14" by 10.5" Alain Laboile: special limited-edition booklet published by Leica Store Lisse and GUP Magazine Renowned French sculptor and photographer Alain Laboile partnered with GUP Magazine and Leica Store Lisse in the Netherlands on this exclusive 36-page booklet released in 2015. Included is an interview with Laboile and 16 of his photographs offering a glimpse into the magic of everyday life for children in the French countryside. Today, the only place online you can find this rare booklet available is for $99 plus $25 shipping from Leica Store Lisse's eBay shop, with a tag on the listing showing it's currently in one person's shopping cart. Don't miss out on picking up this limited release for your collection! About 9" by 6.5" National Geographic Society: "Wilderness U.S.A." Part photobook, part National Geographic guide to the great outdoors, this 344-page collection features 363 total images accompanied by articles and stories putting the full glory of nature and wildlife from all corners of the United States on display. Of course, we happen to live in arguably the most beautiful part of the country, so one of the first articles is from local mountaineering legend, author, and advocate Harvey Manning talking about the West Coast from the Olympics south, and the book finishes with a detailed guide to backpacking from Manning. In between, National Geographic tells stories, depicts jaw-dropping wilderness, and educates us about our country from the Everglades to the Arctic. Published in 1973, "Wilderness U.S.A." is an important point in time for nature and conservation in the United States. About 12.5" by 9" Photography at the National Geographic: "Images of the World" My personal favorite of these books, "Images of the World" was published in 1981 but contains 326 photographs dating back to the turn of the 20th Century. People, places, microscopic life, celestial displays, cultural traditions, historical events, natural wonders, all are depicted here with context and articles. From baseball to Bali, from Alexander Graham Bell to Jane Goodall, page after page of breathtaking images are a visual history of the planet. Be prepared to spend hours enraptured by each turn of the page! 12.25" by 9.75"
