Description
Beautiful original Restoration Hardware Mayfair Steamer Trunk Low Chest in Vintage Cigar Leather. This is one of RH’s older, substantial pieces, made to resemble the antique luggage trunks once used for rail and ocean travel. It is handmade from distressed, aniline dyed leather over a solid wood frame, with leather-wrapped handles, leather corner brackets, oak slats, antiqued cast metal hardware and thousands of hand hammered nailheads. The leather was intentionally made with an aged, antiqued finish, so the natural variation and patina are part of the look of the piece. According to Restoration Hardware, no two of these trunks were exactly alike. It also has a surprising amount of storage. The entire top opens to reveal four separate canvas-lined compartments, plus storage pockets inside the lid. The large lower drawer pulls completely out and is divided into two large canvas-lined compartments. Dimensions: 55” wide 15.5” deep 20” tall The piece has been used and has normal vintage wear, scratches and scuffs to the leather, including some more noticeable marks on the top. I photographed these clearly. Personally I think the wear works well with the distressed steamer trunk design, but please look through all photos so you know exactly what you are getting. Structurally it is in very good condition. The interior is also remarkably clean. This barely got used. It is just a show peace, and after my dog jumped on it when I first got it (scratch on top) it has been covered with a lamb skin. This model originally retailed around $1,800 through Restoration Hardware. A really substantial statement piece that can work as a low console, storage chest, end-of-bed trunk, oversized coffee table or entryway piece. Pickup only. This is a heavy, extremely well built piece, so please plan accordingly for moving it. I can help load. I purchased this new from Artisan Emporium in Oregon, where it was labeled and sold to me as Restoration Hardware. I did not buy from an RH store, so I want to be completely transparent about that. I also have a bunch of other things for sale on my account, we plan on moving so we're lightening up our load.
