Description
Complete three-volume antique set of “Pictorial History of the Civil War” by Benson J. Lossing, published in Philadelphia by George W. Childs in 1866 and 1868. All three large volumes retain their original full-sheep bindings with black morocco spine labels, marbled endpapers, and marbled page edges. The set contains hundreds of period wood engravings by Lossing and Barritt, based on sketches by the author and others. Lossing was both a historian and an eyewitness, giving this early Civil War history particular historical interest and value. Condition: Antique condition with expected age-related wear. Volume II has a small trace of dampness at the upper inner corners of the first few pages. The front hinge of Volume I is shaky but holding. Previous-owner bookplates are present in each volume. Please examine all photographs. Previously priced at $250 by Black Swan Books. Price: $325 for the complete three-volume set.
