Description

READ THIS FIRST 1. Edge chipping along the heel end and one side of the face. The working face itself is flat and the horn is in good shape. 2. The mouth of the hardy hole is dished from hard use. The square is intact below it and a hardy tool's shank will seat, but the shoulder will not sit flat, so the tool rocks. See the close-up photo. 3. The face has never been ground, milled or welded on. Rings clearly when struck. 4. The fabricated steel stand is included - four splayed angle-iron legs, welded, with a fitted cradle. Puts the anvil at working height. Figure $100-150 and an afternoon to buy or build one. WHAT IT IS FOR A used Peter Wright blacksmith anvil, London pattern, on its steel stand: horn for drawing and bending, flat face for general forging, heel with hardy and pritchel holes. At 93 lb it is a practical size for a home forge - heavy enough to work against, light enough for one person to move. ABOUT THE MAKER Peter Wright of Dudley, England is the best-known English anvil maker. Wrought iron body with a forge-welded tool steel face plate, not cast. The ENGLAND stamp dates this one roughly post-1910. SPECIFICATIONS - Stamped PETER WRIGHT / PATENT / ENGLAND with SOLID WROUGHT above - 93 lb on the scale (stamped 0-3-8 hundredweight = 92 lb) - London pattern, single horn - Hardy hole and pritchel hole in the heel - Fabricated steel stand included WHERE IT CAME FROM From the tool collection of a heavy-truck and leaf-spring repair shop. CONDITION Used, decades of shop wear. Face is flat. Edge chipping and the dished hardy hole as described above. Horn in good shape. Shop grime and old paint. Not cleaned or restored. Sold as-is - please see photos. Bring a ball bearing, test the rebound and check the face plate before you pay. I would rather you satisfy yourself in person. LOCAL PICKUP ONLY, Arlington TX. Also have a 170 lb Peter Wright - ask if you want to see both.
