Stunning pair of hand-carved hardwood relief wall plaques depicting a man and woman in profile, designed to face each other when displayed side by side. Each panel features rich, deeply carved detail — the man shown with a textured short hairstyle and traditional garment, the woman adorned with an elaborate fish motif headdress, tribal scarification markings, large earrings, and a beaded neckpiece. Backgrounds feature intricate crosshatch and line-work texturing throughout. Backs are unfinished flat wood with hanging wire. Likely West African origin, possibly Haitian or Congolese folk art, mid-to-late 20th century. A bold, eye-catching display piece.
