Description
This is a family piece I was told dated back to the early frontier days and came down through my grandmother's family. She was a member of the Daughters of the Revolutionary War, and The General Society of Mayflower Descendants. This means she had to submit Reams of genealogical proof that her ancestors arrived on the Mayflower and then fought in the Revolutionary War. Her ancestors moved to California during the gold rush, and she was born in San Diego, as was my father. Old oak nail barrels, or kegs, were used by homesteaders, general stores, on construction sites, and at blacksmiths from the 1700s to 1800s for storing nails, horseshoe nails, and fasteners, which were sometimes sold by the pound at general stores. Constructed from durable oak staves with wire hoop bands, these 18-inch tall kegs were eventually replaced by cardboard containers. This is a wonderful piece with lots of character and history and is a marvelous conversation piece Asking $140, cash only. No scams
