Description

Excellently written, highly collectible vintage reading by John Auble (summary of the book noted further below). Published by Nutwood Publishing Co. (2000) 149 pages I paid $28.00 for this when new and it's going for a much higher price in most places. In very good vintage condition but was bent while in storage (this can be easily corrected by the buyer with weight placed upon it or with an iron and towels, should you wish). Pickup in Washington Illinois (preferred) or can ship to an address within the contiguous US. Payment via Paypal if shipped or cash in person. Thanks for looking! Summary: The St. Louis crime family dates back to the mid-1890s, when Italian Mafia gangs began operating in the city. Black Hand extortion activity was reported in St. Louis as early as 1876. However, Italians would not dominate organized crime in the city until after the repeal of Prohibition in 1933. By the time Prohibition arrived, there were five gangs of importance in St. Louis: The Sicilian Green Ones The Pillow Gang Egan's Rats The Hogan Gang The Cuckoos The Green Ones reportedly received their name from the farming communities in Sicily where they originated. Dominick Giambrone was recognized as the local Mafia boss in St. Louis until 1924, when he stepped down and fled the city. The book A.History of St. Louis Gangsters by J.ohm Auble traces the history of gangsters and their gangs in the metro area of St. Louis, Southern Illinois, and Kansas City. It includes connections to the east and west coast Mob Bosses and would make a great vintage gift for anyone interested in this subject!
