Dreamer (2005) DVD - Kurt Russell & Dakota Fanning

The 2005 film Dreamer is loosely based on a true story, specifically inspired by the incredible comeback of a real Thoroughbred racehorse named Mariah's Storm. The Real Story vs. The Movie -The Injury: Just like the horse "Soñador" (Sonya) in the movie, the real-life filly Mariah's Storm was a highly promising racer who tragically fractured her left front cannon bone during a race in 1993. -The Recovery: Instead of putting her down, her owners and trainers spent months surgically repairing and rehabilitating her leg. She defied the odds, returned to the track, and went on to win multiple major stakes races, including the Arlington Matron Handicap. -The Legacy: After retiring from racing, Mariah's Storm became a legendary breeding mare. She is most famous for birthing Giant's Causeway, who went on to be named the European Horse of the Year in 2000.
