Description
Purchased rug in 2014 while traveling in Fez, Morocco. Purple, red, white, blue, yellow-gold. 6'5" x 7'2" Selling because moving abroad. Very good condition, but recommend a professional cleaning. It's been in storage for 10 months. Unique value of this rug (according to AI): - Intricate Craftsmanship: The tight geometric embroidery across the center field and complex border panels demand significantly more weaving time than basic striped kilims, placing it at the higher end of the flatweave price spectrum. -Material Combination: The inclusion of rich indigo and purple Sabra (cactus silk) accent panels alongside hand-spun wool raises its decorative appeal for interior design markets. If a Moroccan rug bleeds when exposed to water, it usually happens for one of two reasons: 1. Unfixed / Fugitive Dyes (Common in Hand-Dyed Rugs): Traditional hand-dyed wools or cactus silks—especially rich reds, purples, and deep blues—often carry excess surface dye or use natural mordants that release color when soaked. 2. Sabra (Cactus Silk) Sensitivity: If parts of the flatweave contain Sabra fiber (agave plant silk), it is dry-clean only. Water breaks down vegetable silk fibers, causing the dye to migrate instantly across the surrounding light-colored panels.
