NRFB – Water Lily Barbie Inspired by Claude Monet (1997) - “Artists Series” - Mattel # 17783. The Water Lily Barbie is a limited edition 1997 doll produced by Mattel, inspired by the paintings of French Impressionist artist Claude Monet. It was the first doll in Mattel's "Artist Series," designed to encourage an appreciation for art. Barbie wears a flowing gown with a water lily print, featuring the earthy and shimmering colors seen in Monet's paintings. It has a three-layer ruffle that starts at the hip and extends around the back. Delicate, translucent beads are draped over the doll's left shoulder and down the front of the dress, representing the glimmering water from the paintings. Barbie’s long, golden hair is styled into a loose bun with cascading ringlets. The hairstyle is adorned with two pink water lilies and a distinctive streak of blue. This doll is from a private collection stored behind enclosed glass in a non-smoking, pet-free environment. While it is NIB and has never been removed from its original box, which is intact, there is a small spot at the top of the box in the center, towards the R, and some small sticker residue at the top R corner of the back of the box.
