Here is the history behind the Link-American (or Link-Taylor) branding: Brand History & Origins * The Dixie Furniture Parentage: In 1936, an entrepreneur named Henry Link took leadership of the Dixie Furniture Company in Lexington, North Carolina. To corner different segments of the growing home furnishings market, the corporation was organized into four distinct specialized divisions: * Link-Taylor: The high-end, luxury producer of traditional solid-wood bedroom and dining room furniture. * Dixie: Focused on mid-priced everyday dining and bedroom furniture. * Henry Link: Specialized in girls' bedroom furniture and high-quality wicker. * Young-Hinkle: Built specialized boys' bedroom furniture. * The "Link-American" Connection: The term "Link-American" appears on specific collector forums and vintage backstamps as a combined reference to the collaboration and high-quality construction associated with the Link-Taylor high-end luxury collections (such as their Heirloom Solid Mahogany or Treasure House series). * Acquisition and Today: In 1987, the entire parent company was purchased by Masco Corporation and restructured into Lexington Furniture Industries. The individual vintage lines, including Link-Taylor, were consolidated and discontinued under their original names. Today, the surviving successor operates under brands like Lexington Home.p
