Submerge yourself in subculture; Pretty Rare Underground Paperback Book: Having always been interested in 1960s counterculture, this collection of subversive writings and edited by Jerry Hopkins (one of Rolling Stone magazine’s premier editors) is a pretty far out compilation of writings that were written to expand your perspective; that not everything that was written in newspapers and reported on during the six o’clock news was “just the facts, m’mam. “ Now more than ever before do we need clarity, focus, and awareness. Of course, we gave more distractions than ever before but staying open can be a lead in to a more conscious life. Having read many books written during the 1960s like the Politics of Ecstasy by Timothy Leary, Be Here Now by Ram Das, and the Psychedelic Experience based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead by both Timothy Leary and Ram Das (when he was known as Richard Alpert) I can say that this book can be eye opening as well as frightening to see just how little we have moved forward from when this book was put out 58 years ago. Having been raised by two parents who sort of embodied that 60s spirit of rebellion, tolerance, and expression I’m sure that they would have read this book if they had stumbled upon it. They might not have agreed with everything that was written about but they would’ve considered it a gift just to be aware of another point of view and awareness changes everything. The book itself is in adequate shape for a paperback. Yellowed pages, a few tears and bends. It’s been through a lot these 58 years and yet it’s ever waiting for you to come aboard. Asking $29. This particular book can go between $50-$100.
