A series of 11 monthly supplements published in 1975 to 1976 by The Sunday Bulletin in Philadelphia to commemorate the American Bicentennial. (See the note at end of description.)* Each cover explains that the supplements “will tell the story of the nine-year war for American Independence.  Philadelphia’s role will be stressed. Much of the material will be in the words of 18th century writers.” Each supplement bears a number and date for the time period addressed in its pages. LOT INCLUDES: The “first of 11 monthly supplements”: Aug. 24, 1775 The “second of 11 monthly supplements”: Sept. 28, 1775 The “third of 11 monthly supplements”: Oct. 26, 1775 The “fourth of 11 monthly supplements”: Nov. 23, 1775 The “fifth of 11 monthly supplements”: Dec. 28, 1775 The “sixth of 11 monthly supplements”: Jan. 25, 1776 The “seventh of 11 monthly supplements”: Feb. 22, 1776 The “eighth of 11 monthly supplements”: March 28, 1776 The “ninth of 11 monthly supplements”: April 25, 1776 *The “tenth of 12 monthly supplements”: May 23, 1776 * The “12th and last in a series of monthly supplements”: July, 1776 *NOTE This might or might not be a complete set of the supplemental series. Note that the covers of supplements 1-9 each anticipate a total of “11 monthly supplements.” Suddenly, supplement 10 anticipates “12 monthly supplements.” This lot contains 11 supplements, not 12. It is not clear to me if the discrepancy is caused by a simple numbering mistake (and this lot contains the complete series of 11 supplements originally announced by the newspaper) or if there is actually a missing supplement.
