Description
NRFB – Designer duo – Escada Barbie (1996) - Mattel #15948; and Christian Dior Barbie (1995) - Mattel #13168. The Escada Barbie is a limited edition collector's doll released in 1996. Created in collaboration with the German fashion house Escada, Barbie wears a miniature reproduction of an haute couture gown designed by Brian Rennie, the head designer Escada at the time. Barbie is dressed in a European-inspired gown with a fitted, black velvet bodice that transitions into a full skirt of cascading pink silk shantung. The layers of silk are trimmed in black velvet. She is accessorized with long beaded earrings and a stunning silk and black velvet stole. To add a touch of glamour, the Barbie features long, rooted eyelashes. The Christian Dior Barbie in this set was the first of two collectible Barbies released by Mattel in collaboration with the Parisian fashion house starting in 1995. This first Dior Barbie commemorated a design by Gianfranco Ferré, then the head of Christian Dior, that was first showcased on a wax model of Barbie in the Musée Grévin in Paris in 1993. This Barbie’s outfit is a miniature version of a look from the Autumn/Winter 1993 couture runway collection. The doll itself features intricate details, including an elaborate paisley brocade skirt, a beaded jacket, a chignon hairstyle, and specific accessories like goldtone earrings. The Christian Dior Barbie dolls are highly prized among collectors for several reasons: · Historical accuracy: The dolls are a tribute to fashion history, recreating original haute couture runway looks with a remarkable level of detail. · High-end collaboration: This collaboration marked a prestigious merging of the world of high fashion with a mainstream collectible toy, increasing the dolls' prestige and value. · Attention to detail: The meticulous reproduction of fabric patterns, beading, and accessories ensures the dolls are authentic pieces of wearable art in miniature. While neither doll has ever been removed from the box (NRFB), the Dior box top has a small tear at the back left, the front cover is slightly creased at the top R corner and it does not stay shut. Please refer to the photos in the listing. The listing price reflects the described condition of the Dior box. Each doll in this duo is from a private collection stored behind enclosed glass in a non-smoking, pet-free environment. Each doll is NIB and has never been removed from its original box, the condition of which is described above and as shown in the photos. Each doll is being offered “as-is”.
