Description

The Price of Freedom Acrylic on canvas | 36 × 48 inches Painted during the COVID-19 pandemic, The Price of Freedom reflects on the tension between economic priorities and human survival. The Statue of Liberty wears a gas mask beneath an ominous sky filled with smoke. She has abandoned her flame to reach for dollars, questioning what happens when the pursuit of wealth takes precedence over the people's freedom is meant to protect. Rising water evokes sea-level rise, uncertainty, and a society overwhelmed by overlapping crises. Around Liberty, outstretched hands struggle to stay afloat. In her other arm, she holds a weapon, a reference to the Second Amendment amid mounting fear and chaos. The painting asks: what does freedom mean, and who pays its price? Local pickup in Miami.
