Description

I’m 99% sure it’s an Original Magis ABS Bombo from the earliest production 1997. Found at an estate sale. They had some other very interesting retro pieces but were way too big and heavy for me to fit. As soon as I saw it, it caught my eye. So I went to lift it to see if it was heavy or (fragile and light telling me it’s replica). And boom, it was definitely heavy, sturdy, well made. So it passed my first test as collectors say, replicas are oddly lightweight and feel flimsy almost as if they would break if you sat in them. 2nd test was the gas piston. The gas piston on replicas are extremely generic and break pretty quickly. A replica cannot hold my weight and will slide down since I weigh 185 lbs. So I raised it up and immediately could feel how powerful it was. I sat on it and it didn’t budge. The seat was very solid and since there is a small chip you can see the white underneath. Replica’s are the same color on the inside. I was 90% sold that it was real so buying it was a no brainer. But it still needed to pass my final test. Measurements. I measured it as soon as I got home and sure enough the measurements were spot on to the earliest models made in 1997. The original Magis Bombo did NOT have a makers mark engraved. It only had a sticker of authentication. As time passed most of the originals have lost their sticker. But once you see and feel this you will know right away it’s no replica. When it is fully raised there is a small ring of rust around the shaft which will easily come out once refurbished. There are a couple of small chips (shown in photos) and a tiny bit of rust on the base. I do not refurbish anything as I like to leave things in their original state. But i can’t authenticate that it is Magis because there is no sticker or markings. But it is extremely well made and very sturdy.
