Description

ition: 1997 Commemorative Edition, no.05538.139 Publisher: Hasbro Hong Kong Ltd. Dimensions of the box: 25.2 x 50.8 x 7.8 cm The game: In the preface of the manual is said i.a. ... "As a special limited bilingual edition marking Hong Kong's return to mainland China (on June 30, 1997), it is sure to become a treasured possession and a classic collectible". Subsequently a short historical describtion of the town is given, followed by Some Interesting Facts About Hong Kong. In here we read i.a. that the Peak Tram since May 1888 transport passengers to and from THE PEAK (= the most expensive blue street), 396 m above sealevel. The design of this "Limited Edition" immediately reminds of the 60 Year Anniversary Editions! The very nicely executed, oblong "golden" box has a green inner box with 2 compartments of thin black plastic. One of them contains a carousel for the Title Deed cards, the other one is destined to be used by the Bank. At the bottom side of the box a survey picture of the board is shown with all accessories as well as a picture of the town of Hong Kong. It is a pity that the box is rather soft and so vulnerable! On the marble like background the well known "red beam" is shown with at its left side the flags of the United Kingdom and China and at its right side the new and old flag of Hong Kong. On the black backside a MONOPOLY emblem is printed in gold. The tokens are the 8 bronze tokens apparently used for all Jubilee Editions being a tram, shoe, bath-tub, car, candlestick, cup and, separately packed, an elephant as well as UNCLE PENNYBAG! The houses and hotels are made of wood and the nicely executed bank notes are biligual and have a different picture of Hong Kong at the back for each denomination. The Title Deeds and Chance and Community Chest cards are either in the English or in the Chinese language! The game is manufactured in .... New Zealand! The game is new, still in box, still in plastic.A little bit of wear on the corners of the box. $130 or best offer
