Description

Description "#18 Desert Mountain" by James C. Fitzpatrick is a 1995 limited edition lithograph of the 18th hole on the Cochise Course at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale. It is hand signed and numbered 149/600. The hole is a 531-yard par 5 and served as the finishing hole for The Tradition, a major championship on the Senior PGA Tour. Cochise hosted The Tradition every year from 1989 through 2001. Jack Nicklaus designed the course and won the tournament there four times, in 1990, 1991, 1995, and 1996. He remains the only player to win The Tradition four times. His 1990 win was his first start on the Senior Tour. His 1995 win, the year this print was published, came after he played the 18th hole three times on Sunday, including a playoff against Isao Aoki. Lee Trevino won in 1992 by beating Nicklaus by a single stroke, and Raymond Floyd, Gil Morgan, and Tom Kite are also past champions on this course. The painting shows the 18th fairway and green with the Cochise clubhouse, the tournament gallery, saguaros, and the boulder outcroppings typical of the High Sonoran Desert. According to the publisher, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Chi-Chi Rodriguez, and Trevino's caddie Herman Mitchell are hidden in the crowd. For Desert Mountain members and anyone who plays Renegade, Cochise, Geronimo, Apache, Chiricahua, or Outlaw, this is a piece of the club's tournament history. It also suits a home office or clubhouse anywhere in North Scottsdale, Carefree, or Cave Creek. Edition details: published by JB Publishers. The edition was limited to 600 signed and numbered prints, plus 100 artist's proofs and 10 publisher's proofs. Image size is 17 3/8 x 26 inches. The back has the Certificate of Authenticity, numbered to match the print, and the original print information sheet signed by the artist. The print is professionally framed with a suede-style mat, a burgundy inner mat, and an engraved brass plate reading "The Tradition, #18 Cochise Course, 531 Yard Par 5." Frame measures [add size].
