KOJO KAMAU Marketplace #2 Mat size 14 x 11 Picture size 11x8 $400 or best offer Slight water damage on lower right side of mat Biography (American, b. 1939 - d. 2016) A world traveler, Kojo Kamau is well-known for his expressive photographs documenting the lives and cultures of people in North and South America, Africa, and Europe. He has photographed extensively in the U.S. and the Caribbean. In 2009 the Columbus Museum of Art presented his retrospective, Kojo: Fifty Years in Photography, which showcased more than sixty photographs addressing themes that have resurfaced throughout his career. Kamau’s subjects focused on community, travel, political and social issues, as well as portraits of notable artists and musicians including Elijah Pierce and Nikki Giovanni. His work is the permanent collection of the Columbus Museum of Art, the Columbus Metropolitan Library, the Columbus Foundation, the Ohio Supreme Court, Central Ohio Transit Authority, and the Downtown Columbus Hilton Hotel. A Columbus, OH native, he studied at the Columbus College of Art and Design, The Ohio State University, and the Rochester Institute of Technology. He was chief medical photographer at The Ohio State University and was a photography instructor at Columbus State Community College.
