SCAM CITY - BUYERS BEWARE

Buckle up, story time.

I've been looking for a Lexus SUV for my family for a while. I saw Vision Hankook on Cars.com, and the LX570 was priced very competitively and looked amazing in pics. I spoke with Mateen, who was very eager and friendly, so this gave me high hopes. He also texted me videos and even more pictures, which had me salivating, thinking it was an amazing deal.

I WAS WRONG.

As I'm coming from San Diego (2 hours south via train), I told him it was important that the car be ready for me to see and that a local mechanic (near the dealership) review it. I would obviously pay for this service. Mateen had no issues with this and was *confident* the car would pass with flying colors - perfect! Our appointment was set for the following day at 11 am.

The following morning, I take the day off work and book a train ticket to head up for our mutually agreed appointment, less than 24 hours prior.

This is where things go wrong.

3/4 of the way up to our appointment, I received a text: "I apologize for today, I have to cancel, I just found out the owner sent the car to auction yesterday afternoon, it won't be possible to view the car today, it should be back tomorrow, can you come tomorrow?"

ABSOLUTELY NOT. But also, why would you take a car to sell at auction, then tell me it will be there tomorrow?

Mind you, Mateen had sent me pictures of the car the afternoon prior, so I don't know when this would have happened.

I explain that I am on the train and will not cancel the appointment; I will still go to his office, OR I will take an Uber to see the car at the auction. At this point, I am committed.

I could sense that scared Mateen a little. He scrambled, said the owner had been notified, and that he would have the car at the dealership by 4 pm that same day.

Extremely frustrated by the lack of communication and professionalism, but I've already committed time/money to this journey, so I'd like to see it through.

When I arrived at his office, Mateen greeted me very apologetically and had me wait in one of the cubicles next to what looked like a TikTok spam bot center with multiple cellphones ringing and chirping over and over.

I informed Mateen that I'd like to speak with the owner and find out where the car was so I could see it at the auction. He said we were in luck! The car was on its way. Great!!

15, 20, 30, 45 minutes go by. I ask Mateen, "Do we have an ETA? If the car isn't coming, I need to book a train home." He says, "Oh, let me get the owner." Out comes another man, whose name I was not able to remember, and he says, "Oh, the car is next door at the mechanic."

Weird, it was supposed to be at the auction...?

"Yes, it WAS at the auction, but we just got here because we found a small leak in the radiator, and we are replacing it now for you - you can go see it if you want."

The intake manifold was off the engine, there was dried coolant all over the block and in the intake port itself. This means there was a gasket leak, and it probably overheated. Not only that, the mechanic didn't even have the car on proper jack stands or a lift; the front wheels were off, and the car was sitting on its base suspension on the ground!!!

What probably happened was, they KNEW a mechanic would call this out, so they tried buying time to quickly fix it/patch it up so I (or some other sucker) would buy it, not knowing about the ticking time bomb under the hood.

As someone who has worked on engines before, I know that whole process takes time, removing the sensors, bolts, manifold, etc. So the car was NEVER at the auction, and they were caught in a lie!

After all this, Mateen, knowing I had just caught on to their ruse, has the gall to ask, "So would you like to come back and test-drive tomorrow?"

Needless to say, Mateen, I would not...

Sold my car to Vision Hankook. Experience couldn’t have been more smooth and straightforward. Got the car checked out, offer was accepted, and out the door with a check in hand all in under 20 mins. Miriam was excellent to deal with. Parking lot is jam-packed and unassuming office/etc but the process was great.

I sold my car to Vision Hankook Motors on BIDBUS and the bid was  2000 more than the highest trade in i received so i was very excited. I live in north LA and had to drop my car to dealer which is 1.5-hrs drive. So because of the distance i decided to check on the buyer and was pissed of my some reviews. I decided to cancel the deal right away. It was almost midnight before the dropping date and i had the 500 hold by Bidbus i would loose if i do not drop, so i contacted Bidbus and no reply. I got even more pissed off and decided that i can put a stop on my card bcause of the distance. Early morning i woke up nervous, no reply from Bidbus, checked the distance and it gave me 1hr drive so in the end i decided to drop my car to the buyer. On my way Bidbus contacted me back explaining that most of the deals that Vision Hankook Motors, Inc cut the price after is because the sellers are not posting fair and hide the damages or issues their cars have, and i put photos of all dents and disclosed everything so i shall have no issues and can contact them if anything happens. Also they offered me$100 credit for Uber drive because the distance was not within 45 minutes as advertised.  In Vision Hankook Motors I was greated by Amna and she checked all the car in details, was very pleasant and knoledgable. Also she said she hears some strange noise from my engine and i agreed to cut 300 even though my car had warranty yet, but We made the deal and in no time she handed me the check and I am really happy with the deal!!

I recently needed to replace my beloved 2007 Mercedes E350 w/189,000 miles as it started giving me never ending messages that it “needed things” (e.g. check engine light, fill oil every ten minutes, you need brakes, you need a new tire). Seeing how the car is not worth very much anymore (but I still wanted to keep it as a spare car), I finally came to terms with the fact that I needed to buy a new “used” car again. (It had literally been 23 years since I bought a used car from a dealer & I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t too excited to revisit that process again.)

After much pondering, I decided on the exact car I wanted (Tesla S, blk/blk). I didn’t know much about electric cars other than my friends who have them LOVE THEM. I love my Mercedes & was considering another E350 until it finally hit me like a ton of bricks one day – I do not want to pay for any more mechanical repairs. I’m fulfilled in that area.

I slowly did on-line research about how things re buying cars these days go. Things are different now because there is so much transparency on-line (CarFax, Experian Used Car Reports, Cars.com, etc. will tell you if a car is excellent price, good price, etc.) Makes it a whole lot easier to truly know the car’s past. Years ago we only had Edmunds & the ever present lies from most used car dealers to count on/deal with.

I found several blk 2018 Tesla S’s & 2-2019 Tesla S’s that I considered when it was time to buy. I purchased the 2019 Tesla S D100 with 67k miles from Vision because @ the end of the day, their car was a much better deal than the others in comparison. The price was lower, the car was 1 year newer, & it was a 100D & not a 75D like the others, great mileage, interior/exterior was excellent, & the Carmax & Experian Reports came back w/very high marks.

Asad, Mariam, & Amna were all very pleasant to work with. They have A LOT of cars there (all beautiful) & I asked them why there were only 16 listed on their website. I was told that they do a lot of wholesale business & that’s why I saw so many cars. All of their cars were in outstanding condition. It’s a bit dusty @ their lot, but the cars still looked good (can’t wash them 7-days a week).

I did visit 2 other places during this time. The experiences were OK. I’m not very good @ sitting around & waiting for help. I’m also not a big fan of driving 1.5 hours out to Norco when I have an appointment only to find out the car I was interested in sold 3 days prior.

At Vision the Team there was very polite & also, surprisingly quiet (no used car salesman experience AT ALL). It wasn’t until Asad & Amna conducted the sale (my third visit), where I was very pleasantly surprised @ how easy the purchase was. Amna had prepared all of the paperwork & Asad went over each page with me. I’m a legal secretary so docs. are kind of my thing. I can read them very quickly. There was 1 doc. where I could purchase a 3-day cancellation policy for a fair amount. I declined & was given absolutely no push back @ all (shocking actually). They included the Car Max report & several other useful items.

I see that Vision has many excellent reviews about buying used cars from people. That didn’t apply to me so I can’t weigh in on that. I would say if you see a car listed on their website & you’re really interested, I don’t think you will be disappointed w/the experience @ Vision.

Amna was a wiz @ setting me up with the Tesla App on my phone (a requirement to charge @ all stations). A few days later my car fell off my App. ChatGPT was exceptional @ giving me the steps to get my car back on the App lighting fast, but @ the end, I needed to go back to have Amna re-register my car purchase with Tesla to get me back on the App. My research on the Internet told me that sometimes this can happen during the Tesla transfer process. Once again, she was a wiz @ getting me back on track.

👎🏼👎🏼🤯 Mariam and her sisters will sell You car that runs to get you off the lot then the warranty they sell you doesn’t cover the engine that’s bad. Watch out for there mechanic Diego he’s just as shady as them don’t go here I’m in debt $24,000 for a paper weight that sits and doesn’t run thanks vision motors your so amazing!!!
