Description

For sale is an authentic, beautifully preserved piece of Pacific Northwest agricultural history: a 1963 Echo Spring Dairy Wooden Milk Crate with its original interior wire dividers completely intact. The History & Story of This Crate: This heavy-duty crate is a genuine mid-century artifact from Lane County, Oregon. The roots of the company date back to 1920 with the original Echo Hollow Dairy on Echo Hollow Road. Following a major post-WWII regional merger on May 29, 1952, Echo Hollow joined forces with Springfield Dairy to launch the iconic Echo Spring Dairy. They constructed a state-of-the-art production facility at 1650 W. 8th Avenue in Eugene, becoming a beloved local institution for generations of Oregonians. Permanently heat-stamped into the thick hardwood front panel is "1 EUGENE-63", proving this exact crate was put into service precisely in 1963 at the main Eugene bottling plant (Plant #1). A Rare, Complete Survival Piece: What makes this specific crate highly collectible is the presence of its original internal galvanized steel wire dividers. This grid system was engineered strictly to transport heavy glass milk bottles without them smashing together in transit. While most vintage crates had these grids cut out over the decades to allow for open storage, this one remains 100% complete and structurally unaltered. Dimensions: Standard commercial milk crate dimensions (Approx. 15" x 12" x 11"). Condition Details: Wood & Metal: Excellent vintage condition. The thick pine panels are sturdy and feature a wonderful, naturally weathered rustic patina. The galvanized metal corner brackets and bands are firmly attached, ensuring structural integrity. Branding: The "Echo Spring Dairy / 1 Eugene-63" advertising stamps are deeply burned into the wood and fully legible. Interior Grid: The original steel divider wires are straight and strong, showing excellent industrial character. Perfect for Display & Function: Because the 4-cell internal wire grid is entirely intact, this crate is highly sought after by wine collectors and home bartenders as a rustic, horizontal or vertical wine bottle storage rack. It also serves as an excellent statement piece for farmhouse decor, industrial style home styling, or local Oregon history collections. Left in completely untouched, original vintage condition to preserve its historical value. Shipped securely with tracking. Please review all photos to appreciate the beautiful mid-century patina on this Oregon classic!
