Slacker by Gordon Korman

The story follows Cameron Boxer, an eighth-grader who is entirely dedicated to video games and doing the absolute bare minimum in life. The plot kicks off when Cameron gets so absorbed in a video game that he completely misses his kitchen catching fire, forcing firefighters to break down his front door. To pacify his furious parents and avoid being permanently banned from gaming, Cameron and his friends invent a fake school community-service club called the Positive Action Group (P.A.G.) on the school website. Their plan backfires when other students and a school counselor think the club is real. Cameron is reluctantly thrust into the role of president, pulling him away from his basement and sending him on actual real-world missions—such as saving a displaced local beaver named Elvis.
