Description
Description: Beautiful and unique vintage clay ocarina (vessel flute) handcrafted in the famous pottery village of Quinua, Ayacucho, Peru. This is a functional musical instrument and a stunning piece of folk art. This "musical diorama" features a band of 9 hand-sculpted musicians, each holding a traditional Andean instrument like the quena (flute), tinya (drum), and charango (guitar). It is hand-painted with traditional white floral patterns (floraleado) over a rich terracotta clay. Key Details: Artist Signed: Authentically signed on the back by "M. Enriquez G."—a known master artisan family from the region. Functional Instrument: Blow into the large port on the back and use the 9 square finger holes on the musicians' necks to create deep, earthy, haunting tones. Vintage Charm: Likely dates from the 1970s-80s. Condition: In good vintage condition. There is a small, honest chip on the base/foot of one figure (see photos), which is common for this type of fragile terracotta and does not affect the sound or structural integrity. Look at photo #4. Make an offer. This is a good decoration piece of art.
