The panels feature applications of narel (shell) and, sometimes, steatite (soap stone) carved to create a three-dimensional effect. They usually include hand-painted details in gold color. They represent traditional landscapes with elements such as pagodas, mountains, trees and figures of ladies or geishas. They are oriental style pieces or Chinoiserie, very popular during the mid-twentieth century. They are presented as individual panels to hang on the wall (approximately 92 x 30 cm each), often part of a folding screen or four-panel room divider. In excellent condition!
