Description

This is the best price for this book anywhere online. James Blish – a prolific writer of science fiction and horror stories – wrote the four novellas which make up this volume. They are a thematically-connected series rather than a sequence of linear stories, and since the author combined two of them, he referred to the series as the After Such Knowledge *trilogy.* The first book, 1958's A Case of Conscience, won a Hugo Award for best science fiction. In Blish's vision for the series, it falls last. This book contains the full text of all, in the order he intended. There have been hundreds of different printings of the individual parts, however this 1991 paperback, published just a few years after his early death, is the only single-volume edition. It transcends the boundaries of science fiction, delving into horror and cosmology. It's a strange series with very worthwhile themes, standing apart from his other work, most of which was science fiction novels, or stories printed in magazines with other sci-fi and horror pieces. Among his better-known creations are the 12 Bantam paperbacks he was commissioned to write after the original STAR TREK series aired, based on certain episodes. The 1974 British horror film, THE BEAST MUST DIE is based on a short of his. This book has very few signs of age, but does have minor wear due to the previous owner's careless shipping. There are no markings, dog-eared pages, tears, etc. The spine has not been broken, the text block is very clean, and the paper shows no evidence of being held open and read – nor are the pages yellowed like paperbacks of this sort always are. *I do not believe it has ever been read.* BEWARE of sellers who list their books with vague terms like "may be a former library book," or "may contain markings." This copy is not a former library book. It is not a remainder copy. No price corner has been snipped off. I'm here to answer any questions you may have about this book. YOU WILL NOT FIND A CHEAPER COPY. Thanks for checking out the listing, and for reading this attempt to describe a series that really can't be pinned down.
