Plycraft Mr. Chair — First Edition, Original Parts Design by George Mulhauser MCM 1959

This is a genuine first-generation Plycraft Mr. Chair — the iconic bent-plywood lounge chair often compared to the Eames design it was famously modeled after. This piece has been fully and carefully restored, not just cleaned up. Restoration details: Walnut veneer shell refinished with a hand-applied gel stain (safer on the original thin veneer than a penetrating stain) and sealed with a durable lacquer topcoat for a rich, even finish Deep oil staining on the wood arms lifted using an oxalic acid wood bleach treatment, restoring the natural grain Diamond-tufted leather back panel professionally reattached, buttons re-set from the center outward for even, lasting tension Swivel base mechanism fully restored, with new T-nut hardware installed for a solid, wobble-free swivel Rocker base disassembled and rebuilt from the ground up — center post, spider base, rocker shoes, and bushings all reseated, tension bolt set last for smooth, quiet rocking All original hardware retained throughout — no reproduction parts used anywhere in the restoration. This is a rare chance to own a first-edition piece that looks and functions like new while keeping its authentic mid-century character. Local pickup only — Redlands/Inland Empire area.
