Description
This exquisite piece is an authentic Japanese Senpōen Studio celadon porcelain Mount Fuji plate, dating to the Meiji or Taishō Era (circa late 1800s to early 1900s) Measuring 6” in diameter, this plate showcases a classic, soft sage-green celadon glaze featuring a minimalist, hand-painted representation of Mount Fuji. The snow-capped peak is executed using a raised white enamel slip decoration (moriage), which creates a unique tactile and visual element. Identification of the Studio Mark The reverse side features a crisp, hand-painted four-character studio mark in underglaze cobalt blue reading "千峰園製" (Senpōen Sei), which translates directly to "Made by the Senpō Studio." This specific kiln was famously operated by a master potter during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and their Mount Fuji themes remain highly sought after by Japanese art collectors.
