Description
This piece is a vintage porcelain trinket dish featuring a decorative metal emblem crafted in the traditional Japanese art style known as "Chokin." It has a detailed floral engraving of irises, water lilies and hummingbirds. Samurai Heritage: As detailed on the base of the item, Chokin is an ancient metal-engraving technique dating back hundreds of years in Japan. It was originally used exclusively to decorate the armor, helmets, and tsuba (sword guards) of Samurai warriors. Precious Metal Gilding: The design on the lid is created by etching into copper, which is then gilded with gold and silver to create a striking multi-toned, reflective metallic image. Mid-Century Export Ware: This specific lidded dish was manufactured in Japan and distributed by Himark Giftware. It is part of a popular 20th-century collectible movement that adapted traditional, heavy samurai metalwork into elegant, everyday home ceramics. This box is in pre-owned, vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing. There is minor expected vintage shelf wear on the bottom ring as you can see in the photos. It measures approximately 3.5 inches in diameter and is approximately 2 inches deep. It is a lovely and useful piece! Thank you for taking a look!
