Description
This is a rare, vintage pair of 1940s cereal insert premium cards issued by the Loma Linda Food Company of Arlington (Riverside), California. These beautiful paper-thin cards were packed inside Loma Linda cereal boxes, like Ruskets and Kris-Bits, during the World War II era as part of their "Beautiful Birds of the West / California Birds" educational promotion. These bird cards were illustrated by known wildlife artist Jack Murray who famously illustrated for The Saturday Evening Post and Kellogg's, and they are the most desirable variants from this 24-card set. They are cataloged by the American Card Catalog as set F274-3b, and each card measures approximately 3.5” high and 4” wide. Included in this 2-Card Lot: Rose-Breasted Grosbeak Ruby-Throated Hummingbird Condition Details: Backs: Exceptionally CLEAN. These cards were never glued or pasted into a promotional scrapbook, which is highly unusual for this specific 1940s set. No paper tears or heavy adhesive residue. Corners: Sharp and crisp with minimal handling wear. Coloring: Shows a beautiful, natural light yellowing/toning from age, perfectly consistent with authentic 80-year-old paper collectibles. No heavy water staining or major foxing. Please review the photos carefully to determine the condition for yourself. This lot can be described as being in Very Good to Excellent (VG-EX) overall condition, due to the cleanliness of the backs. Most surviving cards from this specific Loma Linda series suffer from heavy glue damage, tearing, or paper loss from being peeled out of scrapbooks. Thanks for taking a look!
