Description

Beautiful and substantial antique Rococo Revival parlor armchair dating to approximately 1850–1870. This is a fantastic old statement chair featuring an ornate carved wood frame, dramatic serpentine/balloon-style upholstered back, cabriole front legs, scrolling arms and an elaborate carved floral crest with large roses and leaves. The chair was professionally reupholstered at some point in its life in a beautiful peach/gold floral damask-style fabric with green accents. Upholstery remains very presentable and the underside has a newer stapled dust cover from the later upholstery work. PLEASE NOTE: The large carved rose-and-leaf crest at the top has separated from the chair. The decorative piece is complete and included, and the separation/attachment points are clearly shown in the photos. I have intentionally NOT attempted to glue or repair it so the next owner can have it properly restored. The chair itself displays beautifully and has wonderful curves and carved details throughout. An excellent decorative antique for a Victorian home, historic home, parlor, bedroom, library or eclectic interior. Based on its form and construction, this appears consistent with mid-19th-century American Rococo Revival furniture, circa 1850–1870. No maker attribution is being claimed. A genuinely beautiful antique chair with approximately 160+ years of history and a great candidate for a simple professional restoration. $400 Pickup in Port Charlotte.
