Description

Vintage Zsolnay Pecs Hungarian Porcelain Miniature Barack Palinka Flask Decanter Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible vintage miniature porcelain moon flask / canteen decanter made by the famous Zsolnay factory in Pécs, Hungary. This traditional "Diszkulacs" shape features vibrant, hand-painted Hungarian folk art on both sides. • Front Design: Traditional Hungarian folk dancer spinning in native dress, bordered by delicate dots and floral accents. • Back Design: Colorful traditional floral bouquet featuring the words "Barack Pálinka" (Hungarian Apricot Brandy). • Bottom Markings: Fully stamped with the authentic green Zsolnay Pécs five-tower makers mark and mold code "C 38". Condition: The flask is in very good vintage condition with bright colors and clean glaze (the original cork/stopper is missing). Approx. 3.75" Tall x 3" Wide Interesting: The two small holes on the shoulders of the flask serve a very specific, traditional purpose: they are designed to thread a leather cord, braided string, or ribbon through so the flask can be carried or hung. The Traditional History This miniature porcelain bottle replicates a traditional Hungarian shepherd's canteen (called a kulacs or csikós kulacs). • How it was used: Historically, real-sized field canteens made of wood, leather, or ceramic were strapped over a shepherd’s or horseman's shoulder using a long leather strap. • Decorative purpose: On this miniature vintage porcelain version, the holes preserve that authentic look. Collectors often loop a decorative tricolor ribbon (representing the red, white, and green of the Hungarian flag) or a small leather cord through the holes to hang the flask on a kitchen wall, a display rack, or a Christmas tree.
