Description
This gorgeous 1-gallon red flowering currant is a show-stopping native shrub that brings early-season color and vital nectar to your garden. One of the most beloved flowering natives of the Pacific Northwest, Ribes sanguineum grows 6–12 feet tall and wide, with an upright, arching habit and lobed, maple-like leaves. In early spring, it bursts into cascades of deep pink to red flower clusters that feed hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies when little else is blooming. By late summer, it produces small blue-black berries that are a food source for birds and other wildlife. While mildly edible to humans, the berries are mostly valued for their ecological role. Drought-tolerant once established, red flowering currant thrives in full sun to part shade and adapts to a variety of soil types. It's perfect for native gardens, pollinator borders, hedgerows, and erosion control on slopes. Stunning, low-maintenance, and pollinator-friendly, this shrub brings color, life, and resilience to any PNW landscape. Zone 6–9.
