Description
Antique late-Victorian / Edwardian era glass pocket flask manufactured by the Illinois Glass Company in Alton, Illinois. Crafted with one convex side and one slightly concave side, specifically engineered to sit comfortably in a coat or trousers pocket. A true mouth-blown antique. The mold seam ends cleanly at the base of the neck, and the collar-style lip was finished by hand using a glassmaker’s tooling iron. The base features the faint, embossed Illinois Glass Co. pointed-oval/ellipse trademark enclosing the mold number "70". Made from early flint glass decolorized with manganese, the glass is beautifully clear in the thin walls but displays a gorgeous, authentic pale greenish-yellow "straw" tint in the thick base. (Because it contains manganese, this bottle has the potential to turn a faint amethyst/purple color if displayed in direct sunlight over time.) Approximately 5-1/2” tall x 1-7/8” wide x 1-3/8” deep Excellent antique condition. No chips, cracks, or deep scratches. Features classic minor manufacturing imperfections typical of the era, including a tiny trapped air bubbles and a light "orange peel" texture on the bottom from the antique cast-iron mold. Asking $18 OBRO. No pets or smoking in house. Free pickup in Saratoga Springs, NY. No holds. First come, first served. Cross posted. If out of area: invoice and payment through PayPal.
