Description
Murdoch Bruce Engraving dated 29th November 1846. Based on Painting. This engraving is in the Hong Kong Museum of Art and National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, UK. Nicely framed in wood behind museum glass. Very Rare historical artifact of the natural landscape of Sai Wan (Hong Kong) prior to the British colonization. Dimensions: 20.75" Wide x 15.25" tall (inches) In 1843, the British military built the pictured barracks in the hills near Scout Hill, known as the Sai Wan Barracks, the camp was however hit by severe epidemics and deadly fever which the British armies were especially prone to as they were not adapted to the subtropical climate of Hong Kong. The high death rate forced the British military to abandon the site. It is now the location of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Hong Kong
