Description

Max Eyth – Der Kampf um die Cheops-Pyramide (The Struggle for the Cheops Pyramid), Volume II Beautiful antique German edition of Der Kampf um die Cheopspyramide by engineer and author Max Eyth, published in Heidelberg by Carl Winter's Universitätsbuchhandlung. This is the Sixth Edition (15th–19th Thousand), Volume II (Zweiter Band), and presents Eyth's blend of historical fiction and autobiographical reflections inspired by his experiences as an engineer. The volume is especially notable for its striking Egyptomania and Art Nouveau binding design. The pink cloth covers feature an elaborate black and gilt pyramid motif framed by stylized lotus columns and geometric ornamentation, while the spine displays matching decorative elements and lettering. The artistic presentation makes the book equally appealing as a literary work and as a decorative shelf piece. Printed in German in Gothic typeface (Fraktur), the volume contains approximately 400 pages and includes decorative chapter headings and period typography throughout. An attractive example of early twentieth-century German book design and an excellent addition to collections of engineering history, Egypt-themed books, Art Nouveau bindings, or decorative antiquarian libraries. Dimensions: Approximately 5.4 × 8 inches. Condition Good antique condition. Original decorative cloth binding remains sound with moderate shelf wear, rubbing, and minor fraying at the spine ends and corners. Pages are generally clean with scattered foxing and age toning. Previous owner's signature appears on the front endpaper. Lower page corners exhibit some moisture staining and waviness, visible primarily near the margins and not affecting readability. Binding remains solid and pages are secure. Please review photographs carefully, as they form part of the description. Local pick-up available in Dana Point, California. Local delivery within the surrounding area and professional shipping options are available for select pieces. Payment via cash or Zelle preferred.
