Antique Egyptian brass bowl w/ silver inlay

Antique Egyptian brass bowl with silver inlay circa late 1800’s with an interesting historical connection. The bowl is inlaid with hand-engraved, silver interlocking scrolling, medallions and motifs in the intricate style of metalwork from the 13th to 15th centuries. The pictures don’t do justice to the incredible contrasting silver inlay over brass color. The bowl comes from the collection of Melville Gray (1848 to 1946) of Bowerswell House, Perth, Scotland. See label on the bottom. Gray donated his famous house to the city of Perth as a WWII memorial on his death, and it was subsequently re-opened as the Bowerswell Memorial Home by Princess Margaret (sister of Queen Elizabeth) on September 19, 1950. Gray also had an extensive collection of Venetian glass, Greek and Roman antique pottery and glass, swords, armor and ancient firearms that was donated to the Perth Museum, Scotland. Presumably this bowl was separated from that collection prior to the donation. The bowl belonged to my grandparents (how they came to own it is unknown), and was brought to the U.S. in ~1960. Inscription (portions illegible) attached to the bottom of the bowl on the Melville Gray label reads: Melvill__ __ray (for Melville Gray) Brass Pitcher with Arabic engraving inlaid metal ______ ______ Cohen, Cairo, Egypt 6 May 1913 Bowerswell Perth Bowl is 5” in diameter, 3-7/8” tall and in excellent condition. $195 Must pickup at Central Ave and Encanto, in central Phoenix (near the Heard Museum).
